Photos from the Last Broadcast of Writers on Record with Victoria Lautman

Victoria Lautman seemed upbeat during the final broadcast of
her successful radio show Writers on Record, stating that it
was her choice to end the program so she could pursue new
ventures in her life.

The final show as recorded in front of a live audience at
the Harold Washington Library’s Pritzker Auditorium.

Instead of doing a recap or greatest hits show for her last
broadcast, Lautman decided to make her final show’s theme a
forward-thinking one, and invited book-savvy panelists to join
her in discussing summer reading lists, books for fall, the future
of publishing, and e-readers vs. printed books. From left to
right: Elizabeth Taylor, senior editor of the Chicago Tribune’s
book section; Jonathan Messinger, senior editor of Time Out
Chicago’s book section and founding member of Featherproof
Books; Victoria Lautman; and a man from the Seminary Co-op
Bookstore whose name I never quite caught. Help on that in
the comments would be appreciated.

Much of the show was spent discussing highly recommended
books from the panelists, though they did also delve into
answering questions from the audience, and bashing on e-readers
rather thoroughly.

The final broadcast of Writers on Record can be heard this
Sunday at noon on 98.7WFMT.
